You will want to get estimates in writing from multiple moving companies. Try to be as accurate as possible when you tell the movers what you will be moving. You will likely be charged based on either weight or volume if you are moving long distance, or an hourly rate if moving locally.
Different moving companies offer different types of services, depending on how much you want to do yourself and how much you want the mover to do. If you pack yourself, it will eliminate some of the time on the actual move day, but be careful to pack adequately and you should be warned about liability issues when it comes to packing items yourself.
